HOW WE CAME TO BE! Deer Park In Progress Nonprofit

Deer Park in Progress started because of Horizons.

HORIZONS IS ABOUT MOVEMENT AND CHANGE: From waiting to leading…from talk to action…from poverty to prosperity…from a few to many…from despair to hope…from indifference to pride. Horizons is a community leadership program aimed at reducing poverty in small rural and reservation communities. By providing locally delivered training, skill building and coaching, Horizons helps communities understand poverty and commit to action so they can bring about lasting change. WSU Extension is proud to have delivered this program to 40 communities including Deer Park across Washington state since 2004.
Horizons, an eight-state initiative of the Northwest Area Foundation.

Now, Deer Park In Progress Nonprofit Organization, not just renamed, but is a nonprofit organization that has formed a Board of Directors, Incorporation and 501(C) (3), with help from Horizons 10,000 grant for completion of the 18 month program.

Deer Park In Progress is founded on much of the same mission and principals as Horizons but has added some of its own touch to reflect and encompass our specific community of Deer Park and surrounding area, to partner with other community organizations to work towards the mission which is always ongoing.

Our goal and mission statement is "Exploring and finding solutions to reduce poverty in the Deer Park and surrounding area with the help and involvement of the community, so all may thrive."

We will keep the blog going as an information source. Visit the blog often, updated information is posted when it becomes available. We welcome your comments.
