Horizons Youth Livestock Program

The Horizons Youth Livestock Club is getting off at a dead run! Our first meeting August 19th attendees included:Kim & Katy Nichole, Bob Janie , Peggy. It was discussed that The Horizons Youth Livestock Club's main focus will be to offer events so youth in the Deer Park Area can interact with animals at first hand. The purpose is to offer kids something else to think about instead of drugs, mischief and look forward to something fun kids all love... Animals. It will offer youth in the area events and leadership opportunity. This is a youth club and they are making the decisions with the support of other Horizons committee members. The club is working on their first event to be held Sat. Sept 5th 10 - 2 pm at Mix Park in Deer Park. Katy is checking on permits. Katy will bring her horses and Kim her poultry; another friend may bring rabbits.I am checking with Spokanimal concerning some pets for the event. This will be a fund raiser asking participants to donate $1. to pet the animals. I have attached the Horizons Logo for the flyer Katy will make & hand out at the Clayton Fair this weekend. If all works out, the Horizons Youth Livestock Club will try to get the petting zoo event at the Spokane County Fair sometime following the opening on Sept 11th. We discussed contacting KHQ 6 Community Board to let the community know about the petting zoo and the Horizons Youth Livestock Club.

DEER PARK HORIZONS VISIONING EVENT

Deer Park Horizons Group attended the Visioning Event while while tasting the scrumptious desserts provided to all who wanted them.
Krisan Lehew, the Horizons Coach, offered introductions and an overview of the program.

There were reports from the Brochure Committee and the Kiosk Committee.

The results of the survey were reviewed and we talked about the youth input and the children's posters. We broke into small groups where questions and answers were discussed about the top ten categories. Then we reported back about what was discussed in the groups. Then we voted with dots placed under each catagory. This resulted in the top two priorities for Deer Park, which were:
#1. Promote more youth activities
#2. Transportation
