Horizons Deer Park Community Kiosk Committee Meeting

The Horizons Deer Park Community Project members met January, 26 2009 at 5:30 pm at the Deer Park Senior Center. Over 20 participants attended the meeting. Cordelia Jeffrey, Joyce Simmons, Sidney Coyle, Melissa Stockner, and Dusty Finafrock who attended Leadership seminars in December made brief reports.

The Horizons Deer Park Area participants from previous meetings had signed up for four committees: Commmunity Resources, Community Kiosk, Youth Resources, and Farmers' Market.

[The lack of information about the state-wide seminar for community Farmers' Markets resulted in the Deer Park Area Farmers' Market Committee is put on hold until another such seminar is available.]

The Kiosk Committee discussed where to put a kiosk with community information on where it should be located, how to construct it, how to maintain it, and what information to post. It was suggested that several sites could be established. One inside City Hall Lobby, Perins Field, Swinyard Park, at US 395 and "H"Street, and perhaps an internet kiosk.

A committee roster will be mailed to the committee members (email to those using email). The committee members include Sharon Akers, Christine Clark, Norma Adams, Susan Jameson, Twyla Hyde. Resources will include Debbie Cogan, Sidney Coyle, Betty Burdette, Melissa Mullen-Stockner, Dusty Finafrock, Janie De Lauri, and Cordelia Jeffrey.

The Kiosk Committee will meet on February 3, 1 pm, Deer Park Senior Center (downstairs of City Hall).

The National Guard helping out their Country

On January 8th, of 2009 there were approximately 50 National Guardsmen helping remove snow from the roofs of the Deer Park School District buildings to help insure safety of students taking classes at the schools. School was closed Thursday, Jan. 8th due to this action taking place. Now students can more safely pass through the halls of their schools to their classrooms and have no need to worry about roofs collapsing in the schools. We are very thankful for the Men and Women serving our country, and especially those who helped our community stay safe.
