Leadership Plenty Principals

Deer Park Horizons Leadership Plenty group shared some experiences and learning techniques that were put into practice at the Monday meeting. The Leadership Plenty group is based on effective education pricipals and bettering our community but also recognizing our assets. In the introductions they discussed why they were at the meeting and what their vision and perspective is for a thriving community.

The activities in Module One included personal reflection, self assessment, team building, goal setting and action planning. The group branched off into two teams to build an "Action Sandwich". Both teams built their sandwich with the same eight Ingredients. The following are the important issues that they discussed and chose from cards to compose their ingredients.

HOPE:
That we all be part of the Deer Park Community and surrounding area.
That every family in the Deer Park area can afford a nice home and food to eat.

FEAR:
Lack of community connecting with one another.
The economy will continue to worsen and families and kids will continue to suffer.

PASSION:
That we all come together to create a better place for the community by learning and understanding the needs of the people with in it.
"We are so moved about good things that young people are doing for the community".

ROLE:
Encourage the younger generation to help out more in the community by volunteering.
Mentoring young people to think outside the box.

TIME:
Work together one step at a time, there is no time limit when we are trying to help others.
It depends on how much effort we put into our goals, we usually get out of it what we put into it.
MONEY:
Donations, grants, loans and any source that is willing to help us in this tight economy are needed.
Contact organizations for ideas, research and raise money to help meet our goals.

FACT:
Time, money, help and support are limited but if we keep trying, we as a community Can Do Anything!
It takes a town to raise a child and what ever we choose to do we have to nurture.
REALITY:
It takes a group, leadership, and commitment to start and finish community goals.
We need to get to know our neighbors and help them with their needs.

Anyone interested in embracing a variety of discussions and activity formats, that encourage interactive, engaging, and transparent learning about the Deer Park community and our surrounding areas is encouraged to attend the next Leadership Plenty meeting February 16th at 5:30pm at the Senior Center.

Light refreshments served, gas and childcare reimbursement available.
