Kiosk Committee Report

As of March 24, the Horizons III Deer Park Community kiosk committee met at the Deer Park Senior Center.
The next meeting is April 7 at 1 pm at the Deer Park Senior Center. Present were Carolyn Thorpe, Jeff Tomlinson, Betty Burdette, Deanna Henry, Susan Jameson, and Christine Clark.

Today's meeting included discussion of accessible essential information about the Deer Park Community including
a map with markers for essential services with a key legend.
An organization or a specific person is required to maintain the kiosk information.
Policies for posting of information need to be specific and provide for free speech.
Indoor kiosk bulletin boards proposed might be at the lobby of City Hall and possibly indoors at Yoke's.
An outdoor kiosk site discussion resulted in planning for several kiosks in the "H" Street area, the Chevron area,
the Mix Park area, and at the South East corner of the Airport at Deer Park-Milan Road east of Cedar Rd,
but starting with a pilot project.
The pilot project might be the US Hwy 395 intersection with "H" Street.
Ace Hardware and Rosauers have been contacted about the proposal with replies expected by Thursday afternoon.
Committee consensus: the structure could be either treated wood or treated steel. A three-sided structure could be triangular or three panels in a line. It must be visually attractive, protected with a roof, with lighting from dusk to dawn. One section would have permanent information such as the map and frequently-used community services protected either by a locked kiosk cabinet or with a permanent fastened covering. One section would be for public access information. It could have sliding polycarbonate panels such as the one at Miller's One Stop on Hwy 2. The other section would provide information from the information resource committee.
Susan will contact Tonka Timber again. Carolyn suggested contacting NW Fabrication. Betty will find out the name of the metal worker who created the archway for Woodland Cemetery.
Jeff Tomlinson will contact two architects for volunteer design services and will meet with Chewelah's Planning Commission Chair, Tom Bristol. Chris will email Jeff the name of the Arts Center architect.
Deanna Henry will contact a Scout Leader for a possible Eagle Scout needing a project.
Chris Clark will contact Kelly Archer of the Horizons Deer Park Youth committee to request suggestions from Deer Park School District's Special Projects Director Trip Goodall. Chris Clark will ask the City what is required for the pilot project outdoor kiosk. She will contact Scott Moore about the proposed indoor kiosk.
Carolyn will investigate kiosks in communities as she travels in the next two weeks.
Betty Burdette, a committee resource guide, will be available by telephone for further information. She will reserve the Senior Center for April 7 kiosk committee meeting.
Revisions of the meeting report gladly received,
Christine Clark
