Dear Mayor Whisman,
Please consider the Request for Approval by the City of Deer Park, Washington, of the gift of
the Pilot Project Information Kiosk at the Community Arts Center, 315 E. Crawford, designed and constructed by an Eagle Scout Candidate Seth Nelson, Project Manager and Horizons III Deer Park Area Community Project Kiosk Committee with community contributions.
To be approved: Site, City Donation of Land, Foundation, Sidewalk for the pilot project Kiosk constructed with community partners including local organizations, businesses, and resident volunteers.
In September 2008 Deer Park community volunteers agreed to work with the Horizons Project managed by Washington State University: Extension as part of a grant program to fund activities to promote prosperity and decrease poverty in small communities in partnership with the Northwest Area Foundation founded by the Great Northern Railroad. Two Study Circles were completed with a December meeting resulting in 4 goals: providing the good news about Deer Park to residents and visitors, tangible kiosks for the information, promotion of positive opportunities for children and youth, and provision of a local sustainable food supply. Committees were formed to achieve the goals.
From January to May, concurrent committee work along with a Leadership-A-Plenty skills seminar resulted in organized action. An August Community meeting for Visioning reviewed community goals obtained from a survey. The committee reports were consolidated into an Action Report as part of an August grant application to the Northwest Area Foundation with the assistance of WSU-Extension Horizons III Project.
This summer, Seth Nelson, Eagle Scout candidate (Boy Scout Troupe 28 proposed a plan for an outdoor log kiosk which portrays the logging history of Deer Park. Other information kiosks will follow.
Attached are copies of organizational materials and construction drawings.

The kiosk committee realizes that some businesses were not included in the initial information packet letter: GSI Glass and Floyd's Welding will be included in the presentation Wednesday evening.
