LeadershipPlenty meetings came to an end at Deer Park Horizons, but the Community Visioning Process part of the Horizons program is yet to come!
What is the Community Visioning Process? Well... it is the many ideas and skills generated during Study Circles and LeadershipPlenty. During this phase the broader community is mobilized to adopt a shared vision and a plan for poverty reduction for Deer Park and surrounding areas. One of the ways will be through a "Make Deer Park a Better Place to Live" survey. The survey prepared as a visioning tool, will help glean knowledge from at least 15% ( hopefully more), of the total community. The Deer Park Horizons group will be encouraging participants from all segments of the community to participate in the survey.
More information about the results of the survey, updates on the committees progress and other community information to come on this blog later.

LEADERSHIP PLENTY
April 6th LeadershipPlenty participants completed module six. Topics discussed were Building Strategic Partnerships, Important Issues Facing Our Community, Identifying Community Partners, Risks and Managing Risks.
The topic, Most Important Issues Facing Our Community raised some interesting discussion which included the need in our community for, or improvement in the following:
Finding new people and connecting them with local resources, such as the local resource guide the group is preparing. Also, directing them to another local resource like the groups Kiosk that is presently under construction. ( Two Horizon's group action projects resulting from study circles).
The need of youth involvement and positive interaction with adults in the community.
More youth activities that appeal to the youth.
Transportation for the local and outlying areas.
Health Care that is affordable to everyone.
Sense of community involvement (not just the same 3 or 10 people).
LeadershipPlenty survey results are being filled out and will be collected timely.
Refreshments, gas cards, childcare reimbursements provided.
LOCATION CHANGE Next meeting April 13 , 5:30pm Flowers By Melo's 12 W. Crawford, Deer Park
